Description
Riley went into the mountains to train with Titus for The White December, also to do some hunting again. And then something awkward happened to him.
He was hiding behind some snowy stone or bush, you couldn’t really tell, when a beautiful young deer came up his way. Of course Riley wouldn’t have shot it, he wanted to find the ill ones, the ones who suffer, the old weak ones. And then he saw it. That deer was limping through the deep snow. It looked like that injury had cost it a lot of strength already. It probably wouldn’t make it through winter.
To have a better look at the weak, young deer, Riley stood up a bit to make sure it couldn’t be saved. Unfortunately he made a wrong movement and the deer spotted him. But, to his confusion, it didn’t flee. In the opposite! It came closer, as if it already knew what that long thing in Riley’s hands could do. With some last weak steps it walked closer, standing straight one last time, begging the human in the forest to end its suffering.
Riley never saw anything like this before, he’d never dreamed about that in lifetime. Did this deer want him to kill it? It must have been suffering for a long time already. Also its leg didn’t look well at all. It indeed wouldn’t make it through the rough winter, all alone. It probably would never walk without a lot of pain again, even with a lot of caring.
The young man decided to do what he had to do. To shoot that poor suffering deer as painless and quick as he could. It shouldn’t be suffering any longer. Riley knew exactly where that point was. You heard only one quick shot, then there was silence, a dead deer lying in the snow. He stood up and knelt down next to it, placing one hand on its head. He whispered some silent words in a language, which was obviously not german. Then stood up again to call for Titus. He felt like he had to bury the deer…
